NRM Opens Race for EALA Flagbearers as Tanga Odoi Announces Tight Nomination Schedule

Kampala – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission has officially opened the race for the party’s flagbearers to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) for the 2022–2027 term.

The Commission today, Monday 23rd March 2026, issued a call for Expressions of Interest and picking of nomination forms to replace two NRM members — Hon. Denis Namara and Hon. James Kakooza — who were recently elected to Uganda’s 12th Parliament in January 2026.

According to the Commission, the two positions became vacant following the elevation of the duo to the national Parliament, creating an opportunity for new representatives to serve in the regional assembly.

Speaking during a press conference at the NRM Secretariat, the Chairman of the NRM Electoral Commission, Dr Tanga Odoi, announced the tight schedule for the process.

“Interested NRM members are required to deliver a written Expression of Interest letter together with an updated Curriculum Vitae (CV) to the Chairperson, NRM Electoral Commission at Plot 13, Kyadondo Road, Kampala,” Dr Tanga Odoi said.

The window for submitting Expressions of Interest is short — today Monday 23rd March to Wednesday 25th March 2026 at 5:00pm.

Nomination of candidates will take place on Wednesday 25th March 2026, from 9:00am to 5:00pm at the same venue.

Dr Tanga Odoi urged all interested aspirants who meet the NRM and EALA eligibility criteria to take advantage of the brief window and submit their documents in time.

The successful flagbearers will be elected in April 2026 to represent Uganda in the East African Legislative Assembly for the remainder of the 2022–2027 term.

This development is expected to attract keen interest from seasoned politicians, technocrats, and party loyalists eager to serve at the regional level.
